Elyria Township, OH – Motorists and cyclists in Elyria Township will soon see changes along Lake Avenue as the highly anticipated Road Diet Project is scheduled to commence next week. The project, which will span from Griswold Road to Elyria Avenue, aims to improve safety and accessibility along this busy corridor.
According to project plans, crews will begin by addressing existing concrete pavement on Lake Avenue with necessary repairs. Following these repairs, the entire stretch will receive a new asphalt overlay. The most significant change will come with the new striping, which will reconfigure the roadway to include three lanes for vehicular traffic – one in each direction with a center turn lane – and dedicated bicycle lanes on both sides of the road. This “road diet” approach is intended to reduce speeding, improve sight distances for turning vehicles, and provide safer passage for cyclists.
The project is expected to take several months, with an anticipated completion date of October 1, 2025. Throughout the construction period, officials have assured that traffic will be maintained. While work is underway, Lake Avenue will remain open with a single lane of traffic flowing in each direction at all times. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be aware of potential delays when traveling through the construction zone.
The Lake Avenue Road Diet Project represents a significant investment in the infrastructure of Elyria Township, promising a more efficient and safer roadway for all users upon its completion this fall.
