After more than two decades of dedicated service, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) recently bid a fond farewell to Deputy Deb Hurlburt, a figure whose career has touched numerous facets of law enforcement within the county. Her retirement marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of commitment, versatility, and a deep-seated passion for community safety.
From Drug Task Force to Frontline Policing
Deputy Hurlburt’s journey with the LCSO began on May 1, 2000, a time when the landscape of law enforcement was rapidly evolving. Her initial assignment with the Drug Task Force laid the foundation for a career marked by adaptability and a willingness to tackle complex challenges. From there, she transitioned to road patrol, experiencing the daily realities of frontline policing and fostering a connection with the community she served.
Navigating Courts, Negotiations, and Community Protection

Most recently, her work with the Sex Offender Unit underscored her unwavering dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of society. In this role, as evidenced by recent news reports, she demonstrated not only a commitment to her duties, but also a willingness to advocate for legislative change to improve the effectiveness of the sex offender registry, raising vital concerns about address verification.
