Man held on firearms-related charges
LORAIN — Two teenagers were fatally shot early Sunday during a gathering at a short-term rental on Washington Avenue, according to police.
Officers responded about 3 a.m. Aug. 16 to the 700 block of Washington Avenue. They found an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene despite receiving immediate medical attention.
A preliminary investigation indicates an argument escalated into an altercation, leading to gunfire inside the residence and on an exterior staircase, police said.
Officers took Alexander Gibbons, 19, into custody at the scene. He faces charges including felonious assault, discharging firearms on or near prohibited premises and using weapons while intoxicated.
Gibbons is being held at the Lorain County Jail. No homicide charge was announced in the release, but police said additional charges may be filed.
Detectives recovered several firearms, shell casings and other physical evidence from the scene. Police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and there is no continuing threat to the public.
The victims’ identities are being withheld pending notification of their families.
