ELYRIA, Ohio — An Elyria man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police said he fought with officers attempting to take him into custody following multiple calls about his behavior.

Elyria police officers were first dispatched at approximately 10:10 a.m. Aug. 12 to the area of Middle Avenue and Third Street for a report involving 45-year-old Derrick Snyder. According to the police report, officers were told Snyder was looking into parked vehicles and acting suspiciously.

Police contacted Snyder, who officers said was under restrictions imposed by his probation officer. Officers advised Snyder of the complaint and cleared the scene without further incident, according to the report.

Several hours later, at approximately 1:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 504 Abbe Road North after another caller reported Snyder was there and acting strangely. The caller told police Snyder had been walking around the parking lot in his underwear and yelling at someone, according to the report.

Officers arrived and found Snyder walking around a vehicle. Police said Snyder had previously been warned about his behavior and was placed under arrest for persistent disorderly conduct.

According to the report, Snyder fought with officers as they attempted to arrest him and was placed in handcuffs without further incident. Officers searched Snyder and reported finding a small amount of marijuana.

Snyder was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he was held pending bond or an appearance in Elyria Municipal Court. The case report lists the incident as disorderly conduct — persisting.
