Discovery made during search for vapes

LORAIN — A loaded weapon was found in a student’s backpack Wednesday during a search for vapes at Lorain High School, according to Lorain City Schools.

School safety officers were searching the male student when they discovered the weapon, the district said in a statement posted to Facebook.

The school safety team and Lorain police responded immediately, according to the district.

The statement did not identify the type of weapon or provide the student’s age or grade. It also did not say whether the student was arrested or charged.

No injuries or threats were reported in the district’s statement.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” the district said. “We take all safety concerns seriously and will continue to investigate and respond appropriately.”

The district encouraged students to report safety concerns to a trusted adult, school employee or safety officer.
