ELYRIA — A Lorain man was arrested after Elyria police investigated a reported domestic violence incident at Sycamore Suites on Midway Boulevard.
Lucas Isaac Allen Nail, 30, of Lorain, was listed as the suspect in an Elyria police report connected to a domestic violence call reported Saturday, May 16, in the 600 block of Midway Boulevard.
According to the report, Elyria officers were dispatched to Sycamore Suites around 7:12 p.m. for a disturbance. Officers spoke with the caller, the alleged victim and another person at the scene.
Police said the alleged victim reported that Nail had assaulted her during an argument. The report says officers observed visible injuries, including bruising near the alleged victim’s eye and red marks on both sides of her neck. Police said the injuries were photographed and uploaded into evidence.
Police said the alleged victim told officers Nail had placed a hand around her neck for several seconds during the incident. The report says she told officers she did not lose consciousness, but had difficulty breathing during that time.
Officers also reported that Nail had left the area before police arrived. According to the report, the alleged victim said Nail left in her vehicle, but she did not wish to pursue stolen-vehicle charges and was mainly concerned with getting the vehicle returned.
Prior Conviction Noted in Report
The police report says officers reviewed Nail’s criminal history and found one confirmed prior domestic violence conviction through Medina County Common Pleas Court.
Based on the alleged victim’s statement, visible injuries and the prior conviction listed in the report, police said complaints were signed against Nail for domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony; strangulation, a fourth-degree felony; and assault, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Arrested After Contact With Another Agency
According to a separate narrative in the same report, Elyria police were later contacted by Independence police after Nail was encountered in Independence.
The report says Elyria officers met with Independence police early Sunday, May 17, at a BP station on Brookpark Road in Cleveland for a warrant service. Nail was taken into custody without incident by Elyria officers and transported to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Nail was being held with no bond pending his initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.
All charges are accusations. Nail is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
