LORAIN, Ohio — A family on Dayton Avenue is facing total loss after a fire engulfed their home early Wednesday morning, May 14. The Lorain Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 8 a.m., but the fire had already spread beyond control by the time crews arrived.
The fire began in the area of the home’s back patio and quickly moved through the structure. Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, the home was deemed a total loss. Fire officials estimated the damage to exceed $90,000.
Three family members were inside when the fire started, including one adult in the main level of the home and two others in the basement. All managed to escape without serious injury.
One firefighter sustained a sprained ankle while battling the fire. The injury is considered minor, and the firefighter is expected to recover fully.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lorain Fire Department. No foul play has been reported at this time.
Community members have expressed concern and support for the family, who lost all of their belongings in the fire. No official fundraising campaigns have been announced yet.
Erick Jones, by any chance, was there a service dog that died in this fire?
Thank you.
