ELYRIA, Ohio — An Elyria man was arrested and charged with felonious assault after a woman told police she was injured during an altercation at an East Avenue residence, according to an Elyria Police Department report.
Victor Baron Johnson, 63, was arrested Aug. 29 and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, according to police and Lorain County Jail records. Jail records show Johnson was being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
Elyria police responded to the 300 block of East Avenue after receiving an assault complaint.
According to the police report, the woman told officers that she and Johnson, whom the report described as her romantic partner, had been arguing the previous night when the confrontation became physical.
The woman told police Johnson pushed her face-first toward the bathroom floor, causing her to twist her knee and land on her shoulder. She alleged Johnson then got on top of her and squeezed her right shoulder while pinning her to the floor.
An officer reported observing a large, dark-purple bruise on the woman’s upper right arm. The woman also complained of significant knee pain and had difficulty standing and supporting her weight, according to the report.
The woman was transported by ambulance to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for evaluation.

According to the police report, a nurse told an officer there could be a severe injury to the woman’s upper arm or clavicle. The officer noted that the woman was awaiting X-rays and that there was no official diagnosis at the time the report was completed.
Police reviewed security footage as part of their investigation and later located Johnson, according to the report.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Johnson agreed to speak with officers, the report states. Police said Johnson acknowledged that an argument had occurred and admitted pushing the woman down by her face in his bathroom. Johnson told police she fell backward onto the ground.
Johnson was arrested and transported to the Lorain County Jail.
Jail records show Johnson was booked at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 29 on one count of felonious assault. The booking record lists a $100,000 cash or surety bond and shows an initial court date of Aug. 31, with another court appearance scheduled for Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
The jail record provided does not list a release date.
