The Lorain City Schools Board of Education met Dec. 8, 2025, at Lorain High School, opening with student recognitions and a strong focus on attendance, arts and community support. Helen Steiner Rice Elementary students led the Pledge of Allegiance, and district leaders highlighted improved attendance efforts tied to incentives and partnerships. The Titan Dance Company was recognized for performing at Playhouse Square, with students sharing how the district’s expanded dance program has shaped their confidence, expression and future goals.

The board approved more than $34,000 in donations benefiting students across the district, including clothing, food, hygiene items and activity funds. Several financial and operational items were also approved, including amended appropriations, purchase orders, safety-related contracts and a three-year agreement for 100 connected Chromebooks to support the district’s Digital Academy.
Board member Barbie Washington was also recognized during the meeting by the Ohio School Boards Association for her service and leadership. Washington received multiple honors, including the OSBA Recognition Award, the Roger Samuelson Award for Board Excellence and the Master Board Member Award, which is given to a limited number of board members statewide. Washington is finishing her term on the board and did not seek re-election. District leaders and colleagues thanked her for her years of service and continued commitment to the district.

In personnel matters, the board approved retirements, salary adjustments, supplemental contracts and service agreements. Members also voted to re-employ Superintendent Dr. Jeff Graham following his retirement, extending his contract through 2028 with no additional cost to taxpayers.
The board later entered executive session to discuss personnel matters as permitted under Ohio law. No formal action was taken during the executive session before the board returned to open session and continued with the remainder of the agenda.
The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026.
