Golf, soccer leaders earn honors
VERMILION — Junior golfer Sam Riddle and senior two-sport athlete Jillian Leimbach are this week’s Sailor Standouts.
Sam Riddle
Riddle has put together two strong tournament performances for the Sailors.
He shot a 2-over-par 73 at the Lorain County Athletic Administrators Association tournament, finishing seventh overall. Riddle followed that performance with a 76 at an NOC tournament, tying for second individually and helping Vermilion capture first place on a tiebreaker.
The back-to-back performances continued a strong start to Riddle’s junior season.
Jillian Leimbach
Leimbach competes in soccer and tennis while balancing academics and a job.
Wearing No. 16 for the Lady Sailors soccer team, Leimbach has taken on an important role during her senior season. She helps anchor the defense while also contributing as an attacking threat.
Coaches credit Leimbach with bringing confidence and consistency to the field. She also serves as a leader and mentor who encourages younger athletes and helps them develop as players and teammates.
The Lady Sailors are looking to Leimbach to continue leading the way throughout her final high school soccer season.
