A man wanted on an outstanding warrant was found hiding inside McKinley School in Elyria on Wednesday afternoon after fleeing University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center unclothed, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began around 2:34 p.m. on April 22 when the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Marquis Taylor was being released from University Hospitals in Elyria. Deputies were advised Taylor had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court, described by the sheriff’s office as a non-violent warrant.
Deputies responded to the hospital to take Taylor into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies encountered a woman identified as Asia Hunt, who was accompanying Taylor at the hospital. Authorities said Hunt became loud, disorderly and combative during the arrest attempt.
She was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and assault on hospital staff. She was taken into custody and booked into the Lorain County Jail.
During the incident, Taylor fled the hospital on foot without clothing after reportedly struggling with hospital security guards.
The escape prompted a large police response in the Eastern Heights area near the hospital, with Elyria Police assisting in the search. Elyria City Schools temporarily placed Heights Elementary on hold during dismissal as officers searched the neighborhood.
School officials said students were only released to parents or authorized caregivers, while bus riders were allowed to board their buses. If a parent or authorized adult was not present, students were held until authorities gave the all-clear.
Authorities later located Taylor inside McKinley School, where he was found hiding in the building’s ductwork.
He was arrested and transported to the Lorain County Jail. The sheriff’s office said additional charges are pending.
