ELYRIA, Ohio — An adult woman and three children exited an Elyria apartment safely Thursday evening before police took an armed man into custody following a standoff, according to the Elyria Police Department.
The incident occurred June 18 at an apartment in the 100 block of Park Meadow Drive.
Police said officers were dispatched at approximately 5:35 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance involving 38-year-old Timothy Beard. According to police, information received indicated Beard, who was on federal parole, was armed with a firearm and refusing to leave the residence.

During the investigation, detectives recovered a handgun from the residence. Investigators determined the firearm had previously been reported stolen to the Lorain Police Department.
Beard was charged with Weapons Under Disability, a third-degree felony; Receiving Stolen Property, a fourth-degree felony; and Obstructing Official Business, a fifth-degree felony. Police also said he had an outstanding warrant for grand theft from the Lorain Police Department.
