LORAIN — The Lorain Police Department’s latest weekly crime report shows overall reported cases are down compared to last year, while crashes and shots fired incidents have increased in key areas across the city.
The report, prepared by the Lorain Police Crime Analysis Unit and released April 28, covers the period from March 28 through April 25, 2026. It includes repeat call locations, top incidents, UCR offenses, total reported cases, crash hotspots, burglary hotspots, shots fired locations, drug hotspots and year-to-date comparisons.
According to the report, Lorain has recorded 1,415 total reported cases so far in 2026, compared to 1,607 cases during the same period in 2025. That marks an 11.9% decrease year over year.
Burglary and breaking-and-entering cases also dropped significantly. Police reported 38 burglaries year-to-date in 2026, compared to 51 during the same point last year, a 25.5% decrease.
Aggravated assaults also declined, falling from 46 last year to 32 this year, a 30.4% drop.
However, shots fired incidents increased slightly. Police reported 95 shots fired incidents year-to-date compared to 93 last year, a 2.2% increase.
Traffic crashes saw one of the largest increases in the report. Lorain recorded 508 crashes so far in 2026, compared to 417 during the same period in 2025, a 21.8% increase.
Theft remains one of the city’s most common recurring crimes. April alone recorded 57 theft cases, bringing the year-to-date theft total to 182.
Police data also identified several repeat call locations across the city. Lakeview Plaza at 310 W. 7th St. had the highest number of repeat calls with 11, followed by Walmart on Leavitt Road, Lorain High School, Meijer, and several major intersections including East 28th Street and Henderson Drive.
Traffic stops were the most common police activity over the last 14 days with 356 incidents, followed by premise checks, welfare checks, alarms and disturbance calls.
Crime mapping included in the report shows central Lorain remains the city’s most active enforcement zone. Burglary, shots fired, drug activity and crash hotspots were heavily concentrated around Broadway, Oberlin Avenue, Henderson Drive and the 21st to 33rd Street corridors.
Additional hotspots were identified on the east side near Grove Avenue and Colorado Avenue, with smaller clusters near the lakefront and west side.
The report also showed Monday had the highest number of crashes citywide, while Sunday recorded the highest number of shots fired incidents.
Lorain police said the report is part of ongoing efforts to track repeat crime patterns and direct patrol and enforcement resources where they are needed most.
