Police Arrest Suspect After Early Morning Shooting in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio — Police have arrested a suspect following an early morning shooting that left one man injured in Elyria, according to the Elyria Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 2:11 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, to the area of Lake Avenue and Foster Avenue after receiving a report of a person who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by LifeCare Ambulance to UH Elyria Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation determined the shooting occurred outside a residence on Rush Street following a confrontation between the suspect and the victim.

During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Daniel Armstrong, 57, of Oberlin. An arrest warrant was obtained charging Armstrong in connection with the shooting.

At approximately 10 a.m. Sunday, Armstrong was taken into custody without incident at his Oberlin residence. Following an interview with detectives, he was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending his initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.

Lorain County Jail records show Armstrong is charged with one count of felonious assault.

As part of the investigation, detectives also located and seized the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
