LORAIN COUNTY — Gas prices are climbing again across Northeast Ohio, and drivers in Lorain County are now seeing a wide gap between the cheapest and most expensive stations.

According to recent GasBuddy data, the lowest reported price locally was about $3.89 per gallon at Sam’s Club in Sheffield Village, while several other stations are already well above $4.
Warehouse locations are still offering some of the best deals, with Costco and BJ’s in Avon both around $3.99, along with a Marathon station in Sheffield Village staying just under $4.
But prices rise quickly depending on where you go.
Stations like West Erie Gas and Food in Lorain are around $4.09, while others—including Speedy Gas in Elyria and Raceway on Oberlin Avenue—are reporting prices near $4.12 per gallon.
At the high end, Meijer in Lorain has been listed at $4.99, showing how dramatically prices can vary across just a few miles.
Why prices are going up
Experts point to several factors driving the increase.
Crude oil prices have been rising due to global supply concerns, including ongoing tensions overseas. At the same time, some Midwest refineries have experienced outages or reduced output, tightening the supply of gasoline in states like Ohio.
Seasonal changes are also playing a role. The switch to summer-blend gasoline, which is required for environmental reasons, costs more to produce and typically pushes prices higher every year around this time.
With demand expected to increase as summer travel ramps up, analysts warn prices could continue trending upward in the weeks ahead.
What drivers can do to save
While drivers can’t control the market, there are still ways to cut costs at the pump.
Shopping around can make a big difference right now, as prices in Lorain County vary by more than a dollar per gallon in some cases.
Warehouse clubs like Sam’s Club, Costco, and BJ’s are consistently among the lowest options, though memberships may be required.
Drivers can also save by:
- Filling up earlier in the week, when prices are often lower
- Using apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest nearby stations
- Avoiding aggressive driving, which can reduce fuel efficiency
- Keeping tires properly inflated to improve mileage
For many households, even small changes can add up as gas prices continue to climb.
With some stations already nearing $5 per gallon, the question for many drivers is no longer if prices will rise—but how much higher they’ll go, and how it will impact everyday spending.
