ODOT outlines detours through September
LORAIN COUNTY — Two Ohio Department of Transportation projects are bringing traffic changes to Lorain County, including a September ramp closure on Interstate 90 and an ongoing intersection closure at state routes 18 and 511.
The state Route 254 entrance ramp to I-90 west will close Sept. 8 for pavement repairs and resurfacing.
The closure is expected to last 14 days, with the work scheduled for completion Sept. 22. Drivers will be detoured west on Route 254 to Route 57 south, where they can enter I-90 west.
Westbound I-90 traffic is already operating in a temporary split configuration as part of a major reconstruction project.
The left lane crosses onto the eastbound pavement, while the right lane remains on the westbound side. Drivers exiting at routes 611, 254 or 57 should remain in the right lane.
Other westbound motorists, including those continuing toward the Ohio Turnpike or Route 2, should use the left lane to travel through the construction zone.

Eastbound I-90 traffic remains in two lanes on the existing eastbound pavement. Two 11-foot-wide lanes are being maintained in each direction, with portable concrete barriers separating traffic.
The larger reconstruction project covers I-90 in both directions from the Ohio Turnpike toll booth to the Route 611 interchange. Work includes complete pavement replacement and the addition of one lane in each direction between the Route 2 merge and diverge area and Route 611.
The section between the turnpike toll booth and Route 2 will be repaved but will remain a four-lane roadway. ODOT estimates the overall project will be completed in August 2028.
Elsewhere in Lorain County, the intersection of routes 18 and 511 remains closed while crews convert the existing two-way, stop-controlled intersection into a single-lane roundabout.
Route 18 traffic is being detoured north on Route 58 in Wellington, west on U.S. Route 20 and south on Route 60, also known as South River Street, in Wakeman. The route is reversed for traffic traveling in the opposite direction.
Route 511 traffic is being detoured east on Route 162, north on Route 58 and west on U.S. 20 before returning to Route 511. The route is reversed for opposing traffic.
ODOT estimates the roundabout project will be completed Sept. 11. All work and completion dates are weather permitting.
