ELYRIA, Ohio — A woman was arrested on a felony drug charge early Friday morning after Elyria police said officers found her in a laundry room during a warrant investigation.
According to an Elyria Police Department report, officers arrested Samantha Emmerich, 39, of Lorain, on Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 3:52 a.m. at 701 Broad Street.
Police said officers were in the area of Chestnut Street and Tremont Street at approximately 3:29 a.m. when they observed a woman near the apartment building at 701 Broad Street. Officers believed the woman may have been Samantha Christian, 37, who police said had an active Lorain County Sheriff’s Office warrant.
According to the report, officers later checked the laundry room area of the building and found a woman identified as Emmerich. Police said officers also observed a white crystal-like substance, a credit card with drug residue, and a glass pipe with drug residue on top of a washing machine.
The report states that a preliminary field test of the white crystal-like substance returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
Police listed the evidence as less than one gram of suspected methamphetamine, a glass pipe with drug residue, and a Cricket wireless card with drug residue.
Emmerich was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a fifth-degree felony, under Ohio Revised Code 2925.11. The narrative also lists drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, under Ohio Revised Code 2925.14.
Christian was also taken into custody on the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office warrant. The report does not list the underlying charge for that warrant.
Both women were transported to the Lorain County Jail. Police said Christian was transferred to jail staff without incident. The report states Emmerich was held without bond until her initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.
The report states the incident was captured on officers’ body-worn cameras.
