Lorain Police Promote Halsey, Swear In 5 New Officers

LORAIN, OH — May 8, 2025 — The Lorain Police Department marked a milestone week with the promotion of a seasoned officer and the addition of five new recruits to its expanding force.

Lt. Bryant Halsey Promoted

Officer Bryant Halsey has been promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant, recognizing 12 years of distinguished service. Known for his professionalism and leadership, Halsey has held a variety of specialized roles, including assignments on road patrol, the SWAT team, as a Field Training Officer, and as a founding member of the department’s Drone Unit.

Most recently, he served as a team leader for Lorain Police Team 7, where his initiative and guidance played a key role in the team’s effectiveness.

“His positive attitude and quick sense of humor have made him a valued member of the department and a trusted figure in the community,” the department stated.

In his new role, Lt. Halsey will take on expanded leadership and operational responsibilities.

Five New Officers Sworn In

Also this week, five new officers were sworn in during a ceremony at Lorain City Hall: Austin Brown, Brandon Bratovich, Shane Caldwell, Michael Sorrell, and Claudia Wilson.

Brown, Bratovich, Sorrell, and Wilson are recent graduates of the Lorain County Community College Police Academy. Officer Shane Caldwell brings prior experience from the Sandusky Police Department, adding depth and field expertise to the team.

These additions bring the department’s total number of sworn officers to 97, reinforcing its ability to provide high-quality service to the community.

The Lorain Police Department is currently accepting applications for full-time dispatcher and police officer positions, including candidates with prior experience or those currently enrolled in a police academy.
