Lorain County Corrections Officer Indicted on Felony Assault and Child Endangerment Charges

ELYRIA, OH — Lorain County Corrections Officer Brian Tellier surrendered to authorities Friday morning after a grand jury indicted him on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Tellier was processed at the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and later transferred to the Erie County Jail. He is being held on a $135,000 bond.

The indictment includes the following charges:

  • Felonious Assault (2nd-degree felony)
  • Two counts of Tampering with Records (3rd-degree felonies)
  • Tampering with Evidence (3rd-degree felony)
  • Endangering Children (3rd-degree felony)
  • Dereliction of Duty (2nd-degree misdemeanor)
  • Endangering Children (1st-degree misdemeanor)

The charges stem from two separate investigations. A six-month inquiry by the Sheriff’s Corrections Inspector General examined an alleged assault involving inmate Jeffrey Fry at the Lorain County Correctional Facility in May 2023. A separate probe by the Elyria Police Department resulted in the child endangering charges.

Sheriff Jack Hall said the department is committed to holding both staff and inmates accountable to constitutional standards and confirmed the case was presented in full to the grand jury.

Tellier, who had been on paid administrative leave, has now been placed on unpaid leave pending a pre-disciplinary hearing scheduled for August.
