Elyria Police Capture Wanted Fugitive After River Chase

ELYRIA — A months-long search for wanted fugitive Donte Jamar Parker II came to an end Friday when Elyria Police officers took him into custody following a dramatic foot pursuit across the Black River.

Just before noon on July 18, officers responded to a reported sighting of Parker near Riverside Drive and 11th Street. Upon arrival, Officer Juker observed Parker fleeing from the rear of a residence and initiated a chase that led into a wooded area and across the river.

Parker attempted to evade capture by re-entering the water, but Officer Juker closed the distance and tackled him on the opposite bank. Parker, 24, of Elyria, was secured in handcuffs and transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance.

Friday’s arrest follows Parker’s February 3 escape from custody. During that incident, he fled from officers while handcuffed after being apprehended at a Washington Avenue residence. He also crossed the Black River at that time and was not located despite extensive search efforts.

“Officer Juker’s persistence and determination led to the safe apprehension of a violent fugitive who posed a significant threat to our community,” said Elyria Police Captain Bill Lantz. “His commitment reflects the dedication of the Elyria Police Department to public safety and the pursuit of justice.”

Parker faces a long list of charges, including:

  • Escape
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Felony Obstructing Official Business
  • Having Weapons While Under Disability
  • Strangulation (x2)
  • Aggravated Robbery
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Assault (x2)
  • Unlawful Restraint

Still images from body camera footage were released along with the arrest announcement.
