Lorain City Schools Confirms Student Death as Police Investigate Lakeview Park Homicide

Update: News Channel 5 Cleveland is reporting that Lorain Cpt Jacob Morris has confirmed the person from the fatal shooting from yesterday’s shooting and the announced person from Lorain City Schools social media post is the victim from that incident.

LORAIN, Ohio (October 19, 2025) — Lorain City Schools and the Lorain Police Department have released separate public statements following a fatal shooting at Lakeview Park on Saturday evening that claimed the life of an 18-year-old male.

According to Lorain Police Capt. Jacob Morris, officers responded to 1800 West Erie Avenue at approximately 6:44 p.m. on October 18 after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle parked at the west end of the lot and located an unresponsive 18-year-old suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the head.

Police began life-saving measures until LifeCare EMS arrived and transported the victim to Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Capt. Morris said the Lorain Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau is treating the case as an active homicide investigation. No suspect information has been released, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 440-204-2105.


Lorain City Schools Statement

In a message to families on Sunday evening, Superintendent Dr. Jeff Graham announced that Isaac Brocco Rivera, a senior at Lorain Success Academy, passed away over the weekend.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share that we tragically lost one of our high school students this weekend,” Dr. Graham wrote. “Please keep his family in your hearts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Dr. Graham said the district delayed the announcement out of respect for the family and at the request of law enforcement. The superintendent also confirmed that crisis counselors will be available for students and staff beginning Monday morning.

Dr. Graham added that Lorain City Schools will have support services available for students and staff starting Monday and continuing as long as they are needed.

Separate Incidents

Both the Lorain Police Department and Lorain City Schools have issued public statements regarding separate tragedies reported over the same weekend. Authorities have not confirmed any connection between them.

Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, local officials and the district are refraining from further comment.

Community members have begun sharing messages of sympathy and support for the student’s family and classmates. Lorain City Schools encouraged parents and students to seek support through the district’s counseling teams in the coming days.
