ELYRIA — A 36-year-old Elyria man was arrested early Saturday morning after police discovered multiple narcotics and an open bottle of whiskey during a traffic stop near Market Drive.
According to an Elyria Police Department report, Officer Kelly and Officer Sabeiha stopped a black Chevrolet shortly before 2 a.m. on October 18 in the 100 block of Market Drive. The driver, identified as Jason E. Howard of Elyria, appeared intoxicated and admitted to having “a little” to drink after coming from a friend’s house. Officers noted vomit on his beard and glossy eyes.
During the interaction, Howard turned over his car keys and slowly exited the vehicle at the officers’ request. As he did, he nearly fell and was assisted by Officer Kelly. When asked about his consumption, Howard reportedly said he had been drinking both beer and liquor.
Police said that during a search, Officer Kelly found a plastic bag containing crystal-like substances in Howard’s jacket pocket. Howard first said he was unsure what the substance was but later admitted it was “Crystal Molly,” or MDMA. He also claimed he had chewed one rock earlier in the night. Officers conducted a field test, which returned positive results for cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, and heroin, with a combined weight of approximately 29.3 grams.
Officer Sabeiha inventoried the vehicle and located two folded dollar bills with suspected drug residue and an open bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey on the front passenger seat. The items were entered into evidence.
Howard was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, OVI, and having an open container in a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he was booked without bond pending a court appearance.
