LORAIN — A 30-year-old man is facing felony charges after police say he randomly stabbed another man in the head with a pair of scissors before fleeing into the waters of Lake Erie Monday morning.
According to Captain Morris of the Lorain Police Department, Forest R. Colegrove allegedly entered a business near E. Erie Avenue and attacked a man unprovoked.
Police said Colegrove stabbed the victim in the head with scissors before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers said he then slid down a steep embankment and entered Lake Erie, prompting an emergency response involving Lorain Police, Lorain Fire and LifeCare Ambulance.
After a search, officers apprehended Colegrove in the water and took him into custody, according to police.

Captain Morris said Colegrove later injured himself while in police custody by repeatedly striking his forehead against the partition inside a police cruiser. Police said he was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities also believe he may have suffered injuries from sliding down the embankment along with possible hypothermia after remaining in the cold lake water.
The stabbing victim was also transported to a hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to police.
Jail records show Colegrove, of Waverly, Ohio, was booked into the Lorain County Jail Tuesday morning. He is currently charged with one count of felonious assault and one count of simple assault in connection with the incident.
Court records show Colegrove was scheduled to appear in Lorain Municipal Court Tuesday afternoon. Captain Morris said additional charges could still be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
