U.S. Marshals Assist In Arrest Of Elyria Man Sought By Police

ELYRIA, Ohio — John Alexander Armstrong, 32, of Elyria, was arrested June 4 with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service after police spent several hours attempting to locate him in connection with an investigation involving an alleged protection-order violation.

According to Elyria Police, officers were dispatched to Walgreens, 100 Cleveland St., at approximately 11:31 a.m. June 4 regarding a complaint involving Armstrong and a woman in the store’s parking lot. During the investigation, officers identified Armstrong and reviewed surveillance footage before beginning a search of the area.

Police searched the area of Cleveland Street but were unable to locate Armstrong.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., a member of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force advised police that Armstrong had been observed on surveillance entering a residence on East Avenue. Officers and task force members responded to the residence and took Armstrong into custody without incident.

Armstrong was transported to the Lorain County Jail following his arrest.

According to the police report, Armstrong was sought in connection with an active investigation involving an alleged violation of a protection order. The incident was documented through officer body-worn cameras and surveillance footage reviewed during the investigation.

Court records show a felony charge of violating a protection order was filed against Armstrong under Ohio Revised Code 2919.27(F)(5). A warrant was issued and served June 4.

During a June 5 jail arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court, a judge set bond at $50,000 cash or surety. Armstrong remains lodged in the Lorain County Jail.

A preliminary hearing before Judge Robert C. White is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 11 in Elyria Municipal Court.

The charge remains pending.
