LORAIN — A man was injured and another taken into custody following a shooting on Lorain’s east side Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to an apartment in the 1500 block of Kansas Avenue, near Randall Street, shortly after 4:30 p.m. for a report of a man shot. According to scanner traffic, officers staged before entry due to a firearm reportedly still loaded and located on a bedroom floor. Responding units were advised that the victim’s mother would answer the door and that the victim’s father was also arriving.
Lorain Police Capt. Jacob Morris said the 30-year-old victim was alert and coherent when taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment. Officers arrested Jonathan Bisceglia, 26, of Lorain, on charges of negligent assault (third-degree misdemeanor) and discharging a firearm within city limits (third-degree misdemeanor). He was transported to Lorain County Jail.
Morris said that, based on all indications, including a statement from the victim, the shooting appears to have been accidental. The incident remains under investigation.
