ELYRIA — On August 15, 2025, a 38-year-old Elyria man with a prior felony conviction for domestic violence was arrested after walking into the lobby of the Elyria Police Department, where officers took him into custody without incident.
Dominic Keith Mason, of Park Meadow Drive, faces multiple charges following a series of alleged violent encounters with his ex-wife. Charges include domestic violence (F3), assault (M1), domestic violence threats (M2), and disrupting public service (F4).
According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Bond Street earlier that day after learning Mason had been at his ex-wife’s home in violation of a protection order. A neighbor confirmed his presence, saying Mason quickly left the scene in a black Chevy Blazer. Police noted that the protection order covered both Mason’s ex-wife and their daughter, making his attempt to take the child that day a violation.
The victim later described prior incidents, including a July 26 altercation in which Mason allegedly accused her of cheating, smashed her cell phone, and punched her in the face, leaving visible bruising. Photos of her injuries were provided to police. She also described an August 11 incident where Mason allegedly threatened to punch or kill her during an argument, leaving her in fear for her life.
Officers confirmed through court records that Mason had a prior felony conviction for domestic violence in Lorain County Common Pleas Court. His ex-wife agreed to sign criminal affidavits, leading to the new charges.
Later that afternoon, Officer Rice made phone contact with Mason, who was driving with his daughter. Mason was advised to return to the police department to be served his protection order paperwork. Around 5 p.m., he arrived at the station lobby, where officers served the paperwork and placed him under arrest.
Mason was transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he remains held without bond pending arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court.
