New Felony Charge Filed in Elyria Teen Drowning Case

ELYRIA — Elyria Police detectives have filed a new fourth-degree felony charge against 24-year-old Jacob Rosado in connection with an ongoing child sexual exploitation investigation, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Elyria Police Department.

On August 19, 2025, detectives charged Rosado with Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter Involving a Minor. At the time of the filing, Rosado was already incarcerated at the Lorain County Jail on unrelated matters and was served with the new charge while in custody. He remains held without bond pending his initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.

Details of the Investigation

The charge stems from evidence recovered during a forensic review of electronic devices belonging to Rosado. Detectives discovered files indicating potential child sexual exploitation material, leading to the additional felony count.

“This type of material represents one of the most serious and harmful forms of exploitation, and our detectives will continue to pursue these cases aggressively,” said Capt. Bill Lantz, Public Information Officer for the Elyria Police Department. “We remain committed to holding offenders accountable and to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities say no additional details are being released at this time in order to protect both the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of the juvenile victim. Elyria Police confirmed that updates will be provided when it becomes legally permissible to do so.
