LORAIN, OH — The City of Lorain is bringing the community together for a night of fun, food, and friendly competition during this year’s Patriot Day Police vs. Fire Softball Game on Wednesday, September 10, at The Pipe Yard. The event begins with a Home Run Derby at 6 p.m., followed by first pitch at 7 p.m., thrown by Mayor Jack Bradley.
This nearly century-old tradition has long celebrated Lorain’s first responders and the strong ties that connect the community. In recent years, the event was moved to September to honor the memory of the first responders and victims lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“This is more than a game,” said Captain Jacob Morris of the Lorain Police Department. “It’s about standing together with pride and purpose, remembering those we’ve lost, and strengthening the bonds between our police, firefighters, and the community.”
Supporting Second Harvest Food Bank
While admission to the game is free, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to support the Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations will be collected at the entrance and will go directly toward helping local families in need.
Family Fun and Food Trucks
The event promises something for everyone, including an inflatable slide, food trucks, and plenty of opportunities to meet and connect with Lorain’s first responders. Food will be available from Dominic’s, Kel N Mel’s Dirty Dogs, and CLE Cookie Dough, offering a mix of local favorites and sweet treats.
This year’s Home Run Derby will add extra excitement, featuring representatives from Lorain’s police, fire, and other service departments competing for bragging rights.
The City of Lorain invites everyone to attend this special community event to enjoy a night of celebration, connection, and gratitude for those who serve.
