Rebecca Campbell, the current wife of Jeffrey Hung, has filed a civil lawsuit against his former wife, Michelle Hung, in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas. The case, assigned to Judge Chris Cook, was filed Thursday by Campbellās attorney Michael Wilson of Gemelas, Wilson, Merrill & Fritz Co., LPA.
Rebecca Campbell filed a civil lawsuit Thursday in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas against former Lorain County Commissioner Michelle Hung, alleging harassment, malicious prosecution, and abuse of process. The case, assigned to Judge Chris Cook, was filed by Campbellās attorney Michael Wilson of Gemelas, Wilson, Merrill & Fritz Co., LPA.
According to the complaint, Campbell claims Hung used her position as commissioner to involve law enforcement in a prolonged investigation beginning in 2022, and later filed a civil stalking protection order that was ultimately dismissed this past May. Court records show Campbell is seeking more than $25,000 in compensatory damages and an additional $250,000 in punitive damages. A jury trial has been requested.
The lawsuit recounts several incidents where law enforcement was asked to investigate Campbell, including a March 2024 political event and a September 2024 encounter at the Lorain County Fair. In each instance, the complaint states, no criminal charges were filed. The filing argues these actions amounted to harassment and caused emotional distress, attorney fees, and other damages.
Hung has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit. Attorneys generally advise parties not to comment on ongoing litigation.
While unrelated to the current case, Hung has previously been the subject of litigation during her time in office. In 2023, a federal judge declined to impose sanctions against her in a dispute involving a severance agreement with a former county administrator. She has also denied allegations in a separate defamation lawsuit filed last year. In 2022, state auditors reviewed county contracts connected to her tenure, according to published reports; no criminal charges were filed.
The court will determine whether Campbellās claims move forward.
