Amherst police are investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Saturday afternoon and resulted in serious injuries to a local resident and the death of a dog.

According to a media release from the Amherst Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Rome Beauty Drive and North Quarry Road on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at approximately 3:06 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
The Amherst Fire Department and Lifecare personnel also responded to the scene to provide medical assistance.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound on North Quarry Road when it struck a 65-year-old Amherst resident. The pedestrian was walking along the roadway with their dog at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian sustained extensive injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment. Police said the dog sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Sean Bankston, 34, of Amherst. As a result of the preliminary investigation, Bankston was charged with Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI), OVI refusal, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Police stated that no additional information is available at this time.
