Man arrested after family member shot

Police say woman suffered facial wound

LORAIN — A 40-year-old man was arrested Friday after a live-in family member was shot in the face at a Lorain residence, according to police.

Officers responded at 5:22 p.m. Aug. 21 to the 500 block of West 18th Street following a report of a shooting.

Police found a 63-year-old woman outside the home with what appeared to be a small-caliber gunshot wound to her face. She was alert and able to communicate as officers provided lifesaving medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.

The woman was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for further treatment. Her condition was not immediately available, but police said she was conscious and responsive when she left the scene.

Following an initial investigation and an interview with the woman, police arrested Jonathan Lopez, a live-in family member.

Lopez was taken to the Lorain County Jail, where he was being held on charges of felonious assault and domestic violence. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues, police said.

Investigators have not established a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at 440-204-2105.
